Permanent Global Channel Patching Change

Hey! I have 4 channels currently patched through an AB168, but I would like to move them to inputs on the GX4816 to clean up space on the stage.

I can either reassign each of those previous channel strips assignments with the new inputs (within each scene) or patch the new inputs to the correct channel in I/0. I imagine the latter would be much easier. Is there a better way to do it?

Regardless, I need to make this change global, across all scenes and shows files on the Avantis. Are patching changes global? or is there a way to make the changes global?

Thanks

Scenes without any global or scene filters set will completely reset the console (outside of the console’s buss and stereo channel configuration). This means if you load a scene that was saved with a different routing configuration, it is going to load that saved routing configuration and overwrite however the console is currently setup.

To prevent issues like this from happening, most times you should have the routing “safed” on your scenes so that loading a scene doesn’t change the routing by mistake. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule and if you have a specific reason to need to have a scene change the console’s routing for some reason, you can do that.

The easiest way to “safe” your routing is through the use of a “global” recall filter. This way it doesn’t matter what the routing was set at when each scene was saved, but instead the console will keep whatever routing is currently set when a scene is recalled.

You could also “safe” the routing settings on each scene instead of using a “global” filter, but that is creating a lot more work and a lot more opportunities for something to be set incorrectly which could allow the routing to be changed by accident.

The update function is made for that.
Try it with not important scenes first. Or offline with Director.

And just to expand on Steffen’s comment…

I use the “update” functionality all the time with my scenes (on a DLive). However I find it best/easiest to hit the “Update None” button first, and then specifically add the scene elements that I want to actually update. I usually only make a few changes at a time.

If you try to change too much at one time, you run the risk of changing more than you wanted to. That’s why I like pressing the “update none” button because it ensures that they system will only change the items that I manually choose to allow.

The only other thing to keep in mind is that you have to press the scope button each time you try to update a scene(s). If you update a scene and then select another scene to update, it doesn’t automatically activate the scope filter. You’ll have to press one of the “scope” buttons before the system will activate the blue “Apply” button at the bottom. If the “Apply” button isn’t blue, it isn’t going to allow you to update anything.
