Is Allen Heath actively working on a Linux release Version on systems that run “surfaceless”?
I’d love to port to Linux, unfortunately there is still most of the software missing. ![]()
There is always Mixing Station. That’ll get you 90% of the way. And if its on a touch surface, Mixing Station will definitely be a better choice regardless.
For Director, has anyone tried Wine or similar tools? I know Native is better, but still.
I believe the Mix Racks and Surfaces actually run on Linux, and use the Qt framework. Therefore I expect that Director also uses Qt. If this is true, a Linux version should be possible, perhaps even easy.
However, the user base for a Linux version of Director is probably pretty small (I can’t see myself using it, for instance). So, I also expect that A&H would choose to allocate development and support resources to features and fixes that would benefit a wider user base.
Yea, it comes down to supply and demand. The user base has not moved over, therefore there is no demand yet. But I think that is going to change in the near future because of all the tricks Microsoft is pulling with copilot and security snooping and annual fees. Linux has also gotten so much more “Windows” like with Ubuntu and Mint versions.
