Problem with DX16/8

Hello, we have 3 DX16/8s in two companies that have problems connecting to the SQ series. 2 of them connect after about 10 minutes, disconnect, reconnect, disconnect, and after about 3 minutes they disconnect completely and the connection indicator starts to flash red but does not connect anymore. The third one did not connect after about 25 concerts. The ready LEDs stopped lighting up and all the LEDs on the s-link connectors do not light up at all. All cables are ok, we try more SQ consoles to connect with same efect. Does anyone have similar experiences with this?

Firmware version and production dates?

You should start out by connecting the stage boxes directly to the built in SLink port on the SQ - one stage box at a time. Leave each box box powered on and connected to the console (also powered on) for at least 10 minutes. This will ensure the stage box is updated to the same firmware version as the console. This happens automatically, but only when the boxes are connected directly to the console. They will not update automatically if they are daisy chained through other devices/stage boxes.

If that still doesn’t fix the problem, then I would suggest that you submit a support ticket with A&H (via the main A&H website’s support area). If it’s not a firmware version issue, then it sure sounds like a hardware failure of some sort to me. Either way, they can help diagnose the problem better than we can.

To add, if you have tried those suggestions, and presuming you have also tried new Cat cables, check the SLink ports on both the console and the racks to make sure there are no bent or otherwise out of place pins visible that could be causing these issues.

Probably won’t be the case, but since it only takes a few seconds to look, there is really no harm in checking.

SQ5, SQ7, SQ Rack. Firmware 1.6.1 in all of these.

Yeah we try everithing 1hour conected and nothing, we try restart. We try change consoles and nothing. The orange leds on 2 DX flashing from red to orange and green led “ready” on front doesnt light.

Yeah i write on support yeasterday and still nothing also we call local support and nothing with no call ansver.

Has it ever connected and worked correctly in the past or are these all new stage boxes?

If the physical connections and cabling is good and you tried connecting it with a short jumper directly at the mixer maybe try a firmware roll back on a mixer for a test.

I am assuming that the Cat 6 cables are shielded? If not, you would have some issues in my experience.

Wildr. Why do you think that you had problems with unshielded Cat 6? Even over up to 100m there should be no issues. It’s ones and zeros after all.

Now that is not to say that shielded Cat cable isn’t a good idea; all my Dante Cat Cable is shielded. But in theory, should it make any difference?

D.

If memory serves all connections between A&H I/O and surfaces should be screened CAT5e or better Again from memory lengths in excess of 100m are available but only with specific cable types. Personally I wouldn’t trust anything over about 80m after that it is time to get out the optical cable.

I successfully used 130m CAT7A Long Run for GigaACE.
And you can use a switch to refresh signals.

It isn’t that simple.

Any news on the issue?
