ProTools & SQ5

First post here so be easy on me, lol. I have an SQ5 and so far I’ve been able to successfully send usb out to protools via usb A to usb b cable. I have also been able to get the signal back into the board from Protools. However, for some reason channels 1 & 2 from the board are not working with me. Channels 3-16 on the board are working great, in and out of PT and back in to the board etc… Channels 1 & 2 are seeming like they are set as post fader (on the SQ) while all of the others are working like they are pre fader and that’s what I want. Anyone out there have any ideas as to what would be my issue? I have I/O’s in PT and on the board set all the same but channels 1 & 2 on the SQ5 are the only ones that need the faders up to be able to get signal into PT. I’m happy to give more details and information if needed, just thought I’d start here. Thanks in advance. Also here’s a bit of a background on what I’m doing with this setup as I think it might be useful for others as I’ve tried looking into this and found not much helpful info out there yet.

I wanted to be able to take my laptop out and use certain waves plugins live without going Dante, waves card etc… Especially since waves cards can’t be found at the moment. Had to start thinking outside of the box a bit. And I didn’t want to have to run live professor if I didn’t have to. So far I will say that it works great for channels 3-16! Very low latency and can run a decent amount of plugins, all without having to spend thousands extra just to do the same thing… It honestly surprised me that more aren’t talking about this and sharing it for those that want just a few plugins to use live and to be able to record live performances in PT as well. I just send channels 1-16 to PT and then I return them from PT to channels 17-32 on the board via usb inputs, giving me a wet and dry signal to work with. Dry signals 1-16 and wet signals 17-32. Since the SQ5 has plenty of inputs for me and expansion capabilities, I’m not worried about using up an extra 16 channels. This works great for me and for what I was looking for. Might not be for everyone, but it’s a great workaround to not have to give waves more $ for the waves card, and especially since I can’t even get one if I wanted to right now. Thanks in advance for any help!

Are you sure they’re all patched with IP Direct Outputs to USB on the IO Patch page? The Direct Out Source on SQ is global, not per channel, so you can’t have an individual channel set differently.

I will double check that, but yes I do believe so. I have channels 1-16 all set the same with IP direct outputs set to usb and then channels 17-32 inputs set to usb inputs. It’s just weird to me that it all works except channels 1 & 2 on the board. ProTools only sees those signals when the faders on channel 1 & 2 are turned up, where channels 3-16 all work with faders all the way down and ProTools sees the prefacer signal coming in. Just not with channels 1 & 2. Makes me think it’s either something to do with ProTools wanting a main LR on 1&2 or something weird like that. Or a weird prefader/postfader setting on the SQ. Thanks for your reply! I’m sure it’s gotta be something simple that I’m just missing.
