Qu-16 No sound from Mix Outs

A couple variables complicated the situation.

  • Bought the board from a friend who never used the mix outs - only used the L/R outs which are working fine.
  • First time I used the board, the input meters for all channels all were registering high levels of random gain - even with nothing plugged in. Did a power cycle with pulled plug and all seemed to be normal.
  • Testing with various inputs of several channels, the Main L/R outs (XLR’s) send signal to the speakers as expected.
  • After setting a few aux mixes (I.e. Mix1, Mix2,etc.), the mix meters show a strong signal, a PAFL of the mix masters gives me the expected sound thru headphones of the test mixes. However, it appears that the mix XLR’s are not sending any signal. Connecting the test speaker back to the L/R verifies it’s working.
  • Tried a factory reset with no luck.
I’m not a tech, but appears the mix out XLR’s are not working properly. Suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you, Todd

Maybe try a firmware update or a firmware reload.

Just for a test do you have anything on the alt outputs?

Hey Mike, thanks for the input. The board does have the latest firmware, but I’ll go ahead with your suggestion and try a reinstall of it.

Also, I have yet to test the Alt outs, but, will check that as well and revert back.

I’m traveling for work and will test both suggestions this weekend and post back.

Really appreciate the collaborative help!

I did the firmware update. At first with no luck. After 2 cold reboots, static came from the mains and my test mix. Attempted a 3rd cold reboot… unexpectedly, everything is working correctly. Another 2 cold reboots followed by things working correctly. Hmmmm. Happy it’s now working but I have no confidence to take this board back out to a show. Any thoughts from anyone more familiar with A&H mixers. Does this possibly sounds like a software issue that’s worked itself out?

I have no clue as to what the underlying problem might be but can understand your fear of it repeating itself. I think I would try to run it 24/7 for a couple of days to see what happens (and make sure I’d have a backup in case it’s needed)

Good luck !
