Qu-5 & AR24/12 Channel Strips

Probably getting a bit too excited but I’m ordering a Qu-5D at the start of the next financial year here in the UK (6th April) and am already thinking about the setup and channel strips/layers etc for upcoming shows

I have an AR24/12 that i use with my Qu-16 but ran a bit thin on mono channels on some shows, hence the upgrade.

Just wondering if you have an example layout you use for generic live shows.

So far I’m thinking of the below. Layer 1 will be more set and forget, layer 2 having the stuff that would need more attention. Do like the thought of having fx returns and tunes on both layers. Thanks. D.

Maybe I would start with something like this.
MONITORS - DCA
DRUMS, KEYS, GITS, VOCALS, FX - all separate GROUP

That way, the right hand will always have the main thing, at hand if you need to reach into it, regardless of which layer you are on, and with the left hand you can go into the details, into separate channels.

  • if you need it, you can do more processing on the groups, even with inserts on Dante or USB if the room is big enough (due to the delay).

  • Don’t forget that you can save physical faders if you switch channels to stereo, e.g. 13-14 Keys in your case, so it would only take up 1 place on the channel strip.

Thanks for that, i suppose with the qu16 i had very little options so never did much with DCA’s other then using them to mute and allow for on stage tinkering with channels open but not in FOH. Looking forward to exploring and developing a better work flow!!
