Qu-5 Compatible with MacOS Tahoe

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in upgrading my computer to the latest MacOS release “Tahoe” but it seems that the Qu-5 is still not listed as compatible. I understand that core audio does not need specific implementation to be supported on the Mac platform so why then is the latest OS not deemed “compatible” by Allen & Heath? I am holding off upgrading but it’s been over 3 months and I don’t know when to expect this OS to be officially supported.

Has anyone here upgraded to Tahoe using a new Qu mixer as an audio interface? Are there any brave souls that have attempted this and have any insight to share?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the Allen and Heath forum.

I don’t think my Mac Mini M2 is updated yet, but I’ll check tonight. My Qu-5 is in my Church audio video system.

Thanks you! Much appreciated.

Welcome. My Mac is ready to update, but I’ll hold off for a bit. I had some final Sequoia maintenance items on 15.7.2 to update. I’m not quite brave enough to get Tahoe.

Unless Apple has made changes to how Core Audio is implemented at their end – which is entirely possible – the hardware connection should still be plug-and-play.

The most likely reason Allen&Heath hasn’t officially supported the new OS is because they are still going through all of the changes Apple has made to ensure the upgrade doesn’t break anything in the software and/or firmware. The fact Apple is jumping from iOS 18 to iOS 26 suggests there are really significant changes involved. A&H needs to be certain they identify everything that will impact their coding, make changes, test thoroughly, then make sure those changes don’t adversely affect anyone still using the older iOS. It’s possible they will have to write entirely new software to work with the new OS.

Personally, I don’t update any of the devices I use for audio control until I know the new OS will work with ALL of the applications I need to run.

Hi.

I think you should tread carefully before updating any software unless you have a specific requirement to do so. If it is working as you want, leave well alone.

I recount this from the bitter experience of 6 months of a cascade of software issues because I updated my O/s to Sequoia in order to get Microsoft Teams to function.

I went from a rock-solid Pro Tools (which I have now abandoned, on financial grounds, in favour of Studio One) to one that started playing up to the point it became unusable.

Not the same circumstances as you have, but the principle still applies.

Sound advice - thanks everyone! Much appreciated. I will wait until I get official confirmation of support and make the call based on my needs.
