I can only access it when I am scheduled to run the sound for that evening.
I tried one. It failed.
You said it had to go straight from package to Qu which is what I am waiting to do when I get scheduled and they actually have sound that evening. Last two times cancelled for special church events.
Considering how many different brands models submodels that I have tried I feel justified in complaining.
AH could come clean and admit the problem then we could all focus on fixing it or more easily finding working USBs.
I think it’s safe to say A&H admits, as I believe they are the ones who initiated the spreadsheet. content removed – does not contribute to the thread
Hope those DTs work so you can let it all go.

Just another frustrated user trying to find a USB that works on AH.

UPDATE! and some clues
Tried the last two of the 3 new kingston DT drives. One 16G two 32 G - SE9 and se9G2
Direct from package to Qu to keep MikeC happy about how I used them.
THEY HAVE ALL FAILED SO FAR
All failed with a not compatible message
but
Tonight I tried some more places on the Qu32 with one of them and
I got messages that said
file not found then
incompatible
wrong format then incompatible [on the G2 model]
So the drive is ‘seeing’ the usb memory stick but merely refusing to use it
one seems to indicate that AH wants to find some secret magic file on the memory stick first
the other that the G2 is using a format that AH does not like
have not tried to find out what format the G2 may actually have yet
but it should be FAT32 although maybe it has a different block size than AH wants
earlier we had several usb memory sticks that the drive did not seem to see at all
but that was long ago and maybe it did say incompatible
We use firmware 1.95 4561
Does the firmware make a difference?
Do the KDTs I have use the wrong file format??
Does AH write a magic hidden file on the drive if it sees the file system is okay when it formats it?
It would be useful if some folks could take drives that work and thoroughly analyze them for what is actually on them
including all hidden files, file system, block size, everything, and also directory tree structure with all names in detail
Also what firmware version was used when the USB memory stick got formatted and or used without formatting in AH
If there is a magic file hidden on the working drives perhaps it could be uploaded here and other audio sites to ensure that it would be available forever
and then we could format our own usbs add the directory tree and the magic file and stop the problems we are all having
I am running the same firmware with no issues.
Just today…I’m not kidding I got a few more Data Travelers to use at an installation I was finishing and they ALL formatted perfectly one after another, right out of the package directly to the mixers USB slot.
NOW just to make sure we are all on the same page…you are going into the set up menu and then going to the utility tab menu and to the QU Drive tab where the format screen is at? Picture attached.
If you have not stuck those USB drives in any other computer, mixer, device of any sort and you really did open them up factory fresh and go directly to the mixer I really want you to send me those drives now. As I said before I will pay for them!!!
I believe you. But mine are still failing.
The last two went from package to Qu without being looked at on my XPproSP3 PC.
Win 10 can fork drives, but XP does not do that. But moot as I did not put them in any PC first.
I was there at the page shown and two other places including firmware update.
No need to pay me. I will use them at home for myself. But thanks for the offer.
I would prefer some more clues from someone so everybody could get all their drives working without problems.
@volounteer
Have you had success with any flash drives at aLL so far ?
Did you ever get to use the tried and trusted Sandisk Extreme (old version) and did that work for you?
I ask because I am starting to think maybe you simply have a defective QU Drive.
Have you used the USB port to record to DAW?
Sorry if you have answered these questions before.
For the sake of testing I really would like to try one of your Data Traveler USB drives untouched by anything other than your QU mixer in one of my mixers.
I’m not convinced yet if you actually have a problem with the QU Drive in the mixer but a good test is to take a known drive to work in QU mixers that did not format in yours and try it another QU mixer.
Keep in mind before you can do anything with the QU Drive USB drive the USB needs to be formatted in the mixer and there is only that one menu to do the formatting with.
You put a drive in the QU drive USB give it a second and then hit the format button, watch the progress bar till it’s done.
@debzdoodle
yes
we have found two that worked
they were both OLD white box USB 2 from Staples with their name on them
all the kingston and other name brands have failed. almost a dozen other assorted ones now.
I did not try PNY as they often fail on XP when I use them at home so figured the odds were not good enough to use in Qu32
I ordered the kingston DTs from B&H
16 and 32G SE9 and SE9G2
now did they have a bad batch?
did kingston change the file format or block size?
I have not ordered from amazon or any of the minor suppliers that still have the DT SE9
We only use the USB to back the thing up. Never use them to record or playback.
We playback from a CD player andor a PC. We record to a CD recorder andor a second PC.
The real annoyance is that I want to solve the problem of WHY so many USBs fail on AH gear when they work fine in all the other electronics we all use. AH has to be partly responsible. I have my suspicions but no way to verify them. But are the USB makers doing something different which is not in the spec?
Keep in mind when you put in a fresh new clean USB stick “Data Traveler” and the QU looks at the USB stick, while you are in the format menu it will say “unsupported please format” you then hit the format, it ask you to confirm the format, hit yes and away it goes, after it formats it will do a drive verification and then say OK.
Attached are some pictures I took of formatting some extra drives I had this afternoon, all worked.
Not convinced yet you have a problem with the mixer.
Here’s a little video I took while formatting the drives earlier.
Are you actually doing these steps I show?
Let’s try the video again, not sure how much smaller I can make and still have
something that will play!
And again…
Ok time to let You Tube take care of it.

Not sure why you NEVER took me up on my offer to send one of your drives to test in my QU as a process of elimination.
Had this been the other way around I would have had one in the mail in no time…
Well done Mike
I have had 6 QUs and down to just 2 now.
I have done enormous amounts of editing and Data moving between Imac MBP win 7 2x laptops Win 10 laptop.
And actually to clean a memory sticks, I have just used my QU drive on any one of my QUs to format and then into another laptop to remove the AHQU folder.
Unless I wanted ExFat or NTFS specifically for a project.
I have never had any issues except for the occasion cheapo memory stick that I might have found lying in the junk drawer.
I have had one QU drive that used to sing when I put a memory stick into it but it still worked fine.
And I do have one old memory that actually hangs up a QU until I power cycle the QU?.
Maybe there is something wrong with Volunteers QU drive?
Maybe the QU needs to be hard reset?
Keep up the great postings.
Cheers
Well done Mike
Thanks!!!
I will say if you do a lot of recording and file transfering off the drives and file deleting I would do a clean reformat every so often.
Maybe there is something wrong with Volunteers QU drive?
Could always be…
