Questioning whether AHM is the right fit for us

Hi,

I work at a medium sized theatre, which already owns an Avantis and IO boxes.
Our guest technicians use whatever brand they bring, if they don’t work on ours.

I got interested in the AHM line because it might solve a few wishes we have.

-being able to playback or do live anouncements via the PA, regardless of any console connected to it.
-being able to be flexible in the distribution of audio to several speaker systems we have, including the surround speakers channels we have
-being able to put dynamic EQ and/or multiband compression:limiting on the PA to keep levels in check, especially in painful/damaging frequency bands.

On the first two accounts, AHM seems like a decent fit if one can buy AES input cards for it(?)
On the last count I was hopeful but AHM seems a little limited for that purpose if I understand it correctly.
The compressor on the channels are full band only, right?
The EQs qre non dynamic?
The Dyn8 is not available for the AHM right? Any chance of that happening? Paid add on?

I see that you can have limited frequency band limiters on the outputs but I’m not sure that would work in our situation.
I’d rather have dynamic EQ regardless since that’s sonically transparent if not active.

Any advice or am I barking up the wrong tree and should buy a second mixer instead to do something like this?

Cheers!

HI Yves,

Did you get the answers you were looking for? I would love to follow up with you if you didn’t. I love AHM and I believe it will do everything you need. Lots of updates are coming out quickly, and if the function you need is not exactly what you need, we can get it added in future updates.

Hi Nate,

thanks for your reply. I didn’t really get those answers but I’m not in a huge rush either.
I’d like to see dynamic EQ on AHM, for instance, but I’m not sure how much demand there is for such an implementation.

Wow. I am surprised to learn that the AHM doesn’t have any Dyn8 (or equivalent) plugins. I am also surprised that seemingly no one has made this feature request in the AHM forum. While it might not be the most used option, I can definitely think of situations where this would be helpful to have.

As far as digital outputs from the AHM device, the AHM uses the same expansion cards as the SQ series. Unfortunately, there aren’t any AES cards currently available. The only alternative to getting digital outputs would be to use Dante/Waves/Madi.
