Just a quick question. I’ve been looking at the RTA and 31 band EQ on the QU 16. When I run my mixes through it, probably half the frequencies represented by yellow bars occasionally flash red/peak into the red, does that mean my recording will distort?
On the RTA, the red peaks indicate the dominant frequency, not clipping.
Hi Gary, what about on the 3 led meter strips when Fader Flip is activated, is that just a mirror of the dominant frequency or real peaks?
you need to look at the signal level not individual frequencies.
ignore RTA for clipping info
look at LR out
if that gets over 0dB (ignoring the extra headroom) on the lights you might clip on output
if the channel strips show red you did clip on input (or does AH add extra headroom there too?)
the key is why risk it? stay below the 0 on the outputs. avoid red at all times and you have no clip problems.
digital has a mammoth SNR and you do not need to risk clipping when you record.
if the channel strips show red you did clip on input (or does AH add extra headroom there too?)
of course they did
If your wanting to get an idea of overall frequency content level looking at the spectrograph display would be better.
Thanks for your answers guys, this is clear.

Then those lights are essentially useless.
Our old analog board at least had other lights between detect signal and clip values.
