Recommended SD cards for new Qu series?

my new Qu-5 is on its way, I‘m switching from the 1st Version of Qu-16. Which SD card/which specifications is/are recommended for seamless multitrack recording?

Hi Wil.
These are the specifications I was advised are suitable for multitrack recording.
SDHC, 32GB, UHS1, Class 10

Like you, I am still awaiting delivery of my Qu5 so I haven’t used these yet.
I’ve just taken delivery of a SanDisk Ultra SDHC UHS-1 (read speed of 120MB/s) so it will be interesting to see how it performs.
Just had a thought: you may be better off asking this question in the CQ forum, as the new Qu5 uses the same architecture as the CQ.

I was hoping that some new Qu user has already tried it or that there’s an official recommendation… So I‘ll have to try to find a suitable card myself. Perhaps there‘ll be a compatibility list in the future similar to the list of working USB drives for Qu-16/24/32?

SanDisk Ultra SDXC UHS-I 64 GB is recognized, can be formatted and seems to work perfectly :slight_smile:.

Well, there was a version at 100MB/s and a version at 140MB/s… I just ordered the SanDisk 64GB Ultra SDXC UHS-I Memory Card - thats rated up to p to 140MB/s, C10, U1 specs and when my mixer comes in sometime next week, I’ll definitely test it out and report back.

I know I am kinda taking a chance with a 64gb when they state a preferred 32, but what the heck, if it fails, stutters or causes any issues I can always get a fast 32gb. There are enough people with over 32gb cards that are successful, that I feel ok with taking this chance. :slight_smile:

I use SanDisk Extreme Pro 200 MB/s XC1 V30 and it works fine with a QU6.

Just to confirm, those reporting ‘works fine’ for a 64GB SDXC SanDisk Ultra card or similar, are you testing this recording at both 48 kHz and 96 kHz over an extended run, and under the QuDrive buffer report seeing Errors = 0 ??

Or, are you purely going off whether there is noticeable loss of audio in the files?

I have tested a few different SanDisk U3 128-256 GB cards with multiple errors accrued - I wasn’t expecting these to work. The 32GB SDHC cards I have are infallible by comparison, so I am wondering if the tip over point for block density (or similar) causing problems is the 128GB capacity. A fully working 64 Gb SDXC would better suited for typical set lengths without needing to change at half time or think about stop-starting to save space. If no-one is already able to confirm for certain, I will buy some and test.

my recent test was the recording of a complete show (> 3 hours) with 24 channels (some inputs connected locally, the others via AB168) at 48 kHz with errors = 0. I haven’t managed it yet to listen to all of the tracks but I think that there’s no loss of audio in the files.

To close the loop/further reinforce @wilriker ‘s findings I sourced a 64GB SanDisk as planned and tested. 0 buffer errors after two three hour passes, formatting between. 32ch @48kHz

Total possible rec time is 3hrs 50mins which is much better. Thanks for the recommendation.
