Greetings!
I am making multi-track recordings on my CQ-18t. Once I push the record button, it takes many seconds for the recording to begin. The red record circle blinks for a while; eventually it goes solid, the play triangle lights, and the transport begins, i.e., the time elapsed begins to count up from zero. Is there a way for this recording to start more quickly?
Hi Bongo
I have not noticed anything like that on my unit. Could it be an issue with the SD card? I paid attention to follow A&H guidance, ie a 32GB class 10 SDHC
Thanks @newbie. I have been using much larger capacity SD cards. I’ll try a 32GB and report back.
Here’s a handy article on our SD card recommendations:
Thank you. This is very helpful.
I use larger than 32gb SD cards for multi tracking live. The SD Card write speed is the key. The faster, the better has been my experience. Just my two cents.
I have a 256GB U3 C10 card that writes at up to 90MB/sec and a 512GB U1 C10 that writes at up to 120MB/sec. Both seem to take 5-10 seconds between pushing record and the recording to begin.
I am expecting delivery of a few 32GB U1 C10 cards later today (New York time zone), and will report back once I have had a chance to test these.
I’ve got a few that are writing at 180 and 200 MB/s. I have no problems with them.
The main thing to remember is that the device has a SDHC slot so whilst SDXC cards are compatible, their write and read speeds won’t be guaranteed. Some SDXC cards (and the SDXC slot allows for) extra pins to give extra read/write performance, but CQ doesn’t have access to them. The upshot of this is that you may only get half the advertised performance by using an out-of-spec SD card, which is why we say you should use an SDHC card. That way we can guarantee you’ll get the read/write speeds on the card itself.
I can now confirm when using the recommended 32GB U1 C10 SD-HC card, it takes less than a second from pushing record for the transport/recording to start.
Whereas, when I use my 512GB U1 C10 SD-XC card, it takes 17(!) seconds from pushing record for the recording to start.
So the type of SD card used is clearly the issue here. Thanks to all who pointed me to this answer.
Thanks for the feedback @bongo. Happy your issue is solved now!
