Hello guys! How u’re doing?
I’ve been using avantis + gx4816 over all desk lately, feeling really comfy with this desk and I would like to ask about setting up a redundancy system.
Do you guys recommend any in special? Im using a waves and 1 Dante card actually, but Dante only for recording.
Since gx4816 only has 1 GX Port, I’m not sure how to make it.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Afternoon,
The short answer is you can’t with the GX4816. I’m going to assume when you say redundancy, you’re referring to cables?
You have three options if you want a system with redundancy:
-
DT Stage box; this would probably be the recommended route as you already have a Dante card installed in your console.
-
DX Stage boxes with a DX Hub. The DX Hub can connect directly to SLink, and you then get four DX outs or two sets of redundant runs.
-
DX Stage box with a DX Link Card; same as point two, except it’s an I/O card and SLink is unused.
I also feel that I should mention, the DX ports on the GX4816 will only talk to DX Stageboxes for daisy chaining; they will not talk to cards on the desk.

My post is completely wrong. There is a DX Link I/O card available for the Avantis/DLive. My apologies for the confusion!

Hello Brian
This is the card I was referring to - I am aware of the GigaAce card which you are correct you can also use
Thanks!!
I feel it a bit weird that a GX4816 doesnt have the redundant built in but can bepossible with DX series.
I’ve a Dxhub already but never tried to make a redundant at all
Thanks for the DX Link info, never saw it
Appreciated guys,
Damn it. I totally forgot that card existed.
I edited my post to reflect the fact that I’m an idiot!
@Brian-1 Don’t worry mate, we’ve all been there, haha.
@alestare What I would probably recommend, if you wanted redundancy, is to go the Dante route, seeing as you’ve already got the card. A couple of DT168s cost the same as one GX4816. You have the advantage that you can route anything anywhere—even different branded consoles if you wanted—and it’s good for general future-proofing.
While I see that you do have a DX Hub, it still only connects to the console (whether it’s Slink or GA) with one cable, so you don’t really have true redundancy… I hope that makes sense.
Also, if it helps, the Waves Card can also be used for recording.

Yeah I can use Q rec and swap into Dante
Don’t want to buy DT series actually, we’ve a ton of dx16-8 actually
I guess it is what it is
Thanks for the replies!
Removed because I was mistaken

I had completely forgotten about that! Having never used DLive, only Avantis and below, even then with Dante and DX card in the Avantis, I was thinking GX and Gigace were the same.
Thanks for putting me straight !

You can run the DX Hub redundant with Avantis, it’s just not pretty.
GigaAce card → 2x DX Hub → 2 cables to each DX Stage box, make sure you keep them in the same pair of ports. You don’t get to cascade.
Redundant Dante is notably more flexible with a required network understanding.
