Remote boot and shutdown

We are considering the SQ-Rack as an installed mixer in our church. Currently we are usig a DSP but the device lacks flexibility for our use-case. We need on the one hand a “one-button-system" for daily use, so that everything AVL powers on and off with the press of a button. On the other hand a more flexible and expandable solution for sundays.

We would highly benefit from the SQ being able to boot and shutdown via TCP/IP.

Why not use a power sequencer instead?

Digital consoles are computers. As such, there is a recommended shutdown procedure that ensures the console’s processor/computer is in a “safe state” before the power is removed from the console. Turning the console off either by hitting the power switch on the console or otherwise removing power (through a power sequencer or unplugging the console) without going through the shutdown procedure is not recommended.

That being said, the only real danger in removing power without going through the recommended shutdown procedure is if the system is currently writing/saving information when the power is removed. That may cause system issues. The other 99% of the time when the console is not actively saving/writing information, the power can be removed from the console without going through the proper shutdown procedure without any ill-affects or problems.

The proper shutdown is only strictly necessary if you’re writing to external USB storage.

Otherwise, feel free to shut the mixer down abruptly and start it with a power sequencer/flick of the switch.
