Ripple Patching

I’d like to request a few improvements to the dLive patching workflow:

  1. Ripple Patching

    • Add a “Ripple” option when patching inputs and outputs.

    • For example, if I patch an input/output to a starting socket, I’d like the ability to automatically populate the following channels/sockets sequentially.

    • This would make large input and output patches significantly faster.

  2. Ripple Patching for Inserts

    • Add the same ripple/auto-increment functionality to insert patching.

    • This would be especially useful when assigning multiple inserts in sequence.

These changes would make the dLive patching workflow considerably faster for system techs and engineers, particularly when building or modifying large show files.

I agree with the request and upvoted it.

That being said, you can use the I/O screen and patch sources to inputs there. It is fairly easy to “touch and drag” at a downward angle to “ripple patch” like you desire. Obviously this isn’t exactly the same as what you are asking for, but it is a partial solution that is available right now.

I used it just yesterday to quickly change all my “D” input sources (the console is set up for ABCD channel sources) from one I/O card to another. It took maybe 10 seconds to patch about 90 channels by navigating to the I/O screen, choosing the correct patch options, and holding and dragging down the I/O card source list.

Ripple patch is kind of a DiGiCo thing. It is just as fast to patch via a matrix, but I understand the desire to keep a specific workflow if that is what you are used to.

The only place where I really wish there was a better way of patching is inserts. Maybe ripple patching. Maybe automatic in/out patching like on DiGiCo.
