Hi, love my CQ. Realized I’m growing in my skills cuz of it.
I’m ready to run my sub from an Aux:
Using Aux 6 (post fader, post comp), 80 hz HF
Settings Main LR, 80 hz LF
Choose what goes into the sub, DCA’d with MAIN LR, and a custom layer for my fader riders (main vox, bg vox, lead guitar, DCA, Main LR, Sub).
So far, so good. And sounding great in the garage rehearsal spot! But have an important sound gig starting soon and the question in my mind: is the CQ’s ramp okay in a live room with both the HF and LF simply set to the same Hz?
If it matters: JBL PRX615 mains with RCF 705 Mk3 sub
The frequency set is at -3 dB reduction. So if you set 100 Hz on both, you will have -3 dB on your mains and -3 dB on your sub at 100 Hz. Not ideal.
I do Aux fed subs, and set the LPF/HPF according to the specifications of the PAs / Sub.
My PA go as low as 50 Hz, I set the HPF at 80 Hz to not overload them with unnecessary signal.
My Subs go as high as 140 Hz, I set the LPF at 100 Hz
I can easily reach my target trace like that, by raising or lowering the volume on the Sub
Keep in mind the processing for the sub is all built into the power amp section in the sub. You can feed the full range signal from the aux and the sub will do the rest.
It has two low pass settings 80hz and 110hz selections on the back.
Depending on program content sometimes it is helpful to increase the high pass filter, that setting is not adjustable on the sub, given the specs of the sub I would say it is set at about 40hz.
