When you use the Library button on a channel overview tab you are able to recall and filter many settings and filter what settings get recalled. My proposal is that the filters would be saved with the preset, so that when you recall a preset, you don’t have to remember to filter what parameters you want recalled.
In my use case today I have many background vocal mics that swap to different groups and DCA’s when they are used for different vocal parts: Alto, Tenor, Soprano. I have created library presets to change the routing quickly, but if I were to forget to select only the “Routing” recall option, I would unintentionally change other aspects of the channel.
So in this case whenever I would select “alto route” the recall options section would automatically have only the routing recall option selected. Conversely if I had a vocal eq preset, only the PEQ recall option(filter) would be selected. This would significantly reduce the chance of accidently recalling other parameters and make the workflow in live situations much more streamlined.
While I am sure this is technically possible, it also goes against the methodology that A&H has used on all of their consoles.
In A&H world, “saving” something (whether that is a show, scene, library, etc, etc, etc) always saves “everything” and then you can filter out what you don’t want on the recall. I would be surprised if A&H decided to “break” this methodology for a singular save/recall instance (ie libraries).
At least the system right now is consistent. It might not be the best option for everyone’s use case, but at least everyone knows how the system is going to work.
I hear and understand what you mean, but my suggestion doesn’t go against their methodology, just enhances it a bit. So the Library preset would still contain the full set of parameters at the time of saving, its just that the filter/recall state would also be saved at that time, so that the next time you selected that preset, the filters would automatically be selected, but this would not prevent you from changing the recall filter selections manually, if you wanted to recall more or less from the preset.
I clearly didn’t fully understand your idea when you presented it in the OP. That is an interesting idea and one that could definitely help the situation!
The system still saves “everything” any time something is saved. But as part of the saving process, you can select which recall filters you want to apply. Of course there shouldn’t/wouldn’t be anything that would prevent these recall filters from being modified or removed in the future, but it does allow a user some “control” over how things might be recalled in the future. I like it!
