Saving BOTH trim and gain value of every track

As well all know:

  • Each channel can be toggled between two “states” - Analogue and SD/USB.

  • When the channel is in Analogue “state” you can set its analogue gain.

  • When the channel is in SD/USB “state” you can set its digital trim.

I think it is reasonable to expect that regardless of which state the channel is set to when saving and loading a scene or a show, both the analogue gain AND the trim will be saved and loaded, allowing the user to later toggle between them and retrieve the values that were set for BOTH gain and trim in the previous session.

However, currently it isn’t the case and instead:

  • When the channel is in Analogue “state” when saving/loading, ONLY its analogue gain is saved/loaded.

  • When the channel is in SD/USB “state” when saving/loading, ONLY its digital trim is saved/loaded.

This to me does look like a problematic design flaw. It forces the user to lose information when saving and loading scenes or shows: You either lose the gain or the trim!

While I do understand that this is a simpler “entry level” product, I would still expect it to perform in a way that will allow the user to retrieve the full set of programmable settings when saving and loading shows and scenes, which currently does not seem to be the case.

FYI -

I discussed this with A&H support and that was their response:

Yes, that is correct; the Trim and/or Gain data is only saved in relation to what the input is ‘currently’ assigned as at the time of saving. It is not a bug, but a way that the system was designed. Following more complex consoles, typically, this saved data would need to be unlinked, as it could cause serious problems when patching to sockets or inserts down the line. But seeing as the CQ does not offer complex patching, we can see a valid argument for something like this to be added.

Sadly, there is currently nothing in place for you to use the system in a way that will enable you to recall Trim and/or Gain when switching source type within the same scene. For now, you will need to have separate scenes for separate input source types. If this then also requires linking, then it would need to be administered from the top down and save a show files.

With the idea of having this added to CQ. Please feel free to submit this to the CQ feature forum where these can be reviewed by our product teams.
