Scene Recall Speed and Audio Errors

Hi All,

Been having a few issues with scene recalls during theatre show runs on V2.11.

The best way to describe it is when you hit go, there is a significant delay as the console works through steps to unload and reload DCA’s and recall level assignments of channels. This results in the occasionally spat of noise from a mic being turned up before being assigned to a DCA where the level would be off.

Issue was not dependent on the console network being connected to a wider network. Global safes were set tightly with no recall filters.

Thanks!

I have experienced this as well. Not just with dLive either. I know that I also had this issue with the Soundcraft Si3.

My solution is to always have every actor mic assigned to a DCA. Mics that would otherwise not be assigned to a DCA get assigned to an “off” DCA that is muted and/or has its fader down.

It seems that reassigning a channel from one DCA to another is practically instantaneous. This avoids the short but significant window where a channel is not on any DCA but its fader is up.

The DCA programming becomes a little bit more complicated, but the upside is that you no longer need to program faders and mutes on individual channels at all in many cases. In fact, I usually set the recall filters to block those parameters on most scenes, at least early in the rehearsal process.

Hi Msteel,

We have run some tests in the warehouse with this workaround in place and can report that it has reduced the errors in bringing in large ensemble groups that were not otherwise in the scene by about half however we are still hearing the occasional spat. It has not fixed the audio drop/spat in moving a channel between DCA’s whilst at level.

We will keep looking into solutions!

I have experienced a pretty significant scene recall delay since upgrading to 2.11, perhaps downgrading to one of the lower 2.0 versions would help as I had noticed previous versions recalled within .1-.2 seconds. I have another post on this topic, you can find it in my profile.

Just want to chime in and say I’m seeing this too. Its odd, because channel mutes are fairly quick, but DCAs take way too long. And not just audibly, but visually. And also with the smallest of scopes.

I was starting to think that it might be something about recalling many channels that are in gangs, since that is the case in my show file, but I haven’t tested it yet.
