Hi. I try to figure out how to route a stereo input signal to a mono aux/mtx without summing the signal.
Usage example sidefills left and right. send L of stereo channel (not linked! stereo!) 63/64 to mono aux1 (sidefill L) and R to mono aux2 (sidefill R). I do not want to switch to stereo aux/mtx since I need them mono.
Vice versa is simple: sending a mono signal to a stereo aux.
But why does it seem impossible to access and route the two channels of a stereochan individually?
I like to keep my matrices mono while my mix bus is stereo.
You can get around this issue by using the following workaround:
Use two mono channels that receive their inputs from your stereo channel or mix’ L and R.
In my case that’s the L and R from the mix bus. From there you can distribute the L and R side of your stereo source to mono mixes freely.
I’m not at the mixer right now, so I’m not sure if you can actually route the output of a stereo channel back into two mono channels, you may need the aid of a stereo mix which could of course potentially ruin it for you.
Another thing to bear in mind that this method will break delay compensation BUT the added delay is minute so since you don’t seem to be intending to mix the signals together in any way, that shouldn’t be a problem.
When I first got the console I was well surprised that there was no way to simply distribute stereo sources to mono mixes without having to sum them, yet here we are, still using a weird workaround.
