Currently using an SQ6 with both Local and S-Link inputs. I have installed the Dante expansion card to try multi-track recording with a DAW. Dante can see the board, and I have managed to route everything in Dante Controller. How on earth do I route my channels out of the board? I see a tab for tie lines, but I don’t know how to use it. The tutorials I have found are woefully inadequate for understanding the system. Can anyone shed light on how to set up my audio out?
There are three places where you must set up routing when using an I/O card with something like a computer based DAW.
First, you have to use the SQ’s I/O page to route things to/from the card. Just like you use the I/O page to route audio to/from your SLInk connection, you have to route things to/from the I/O expansion card slot. Based on the fact that you probably want to record the raw unprocessed audio in your DAW, I would suggest using “tie lines” for this. So your audio source will be the tie lines and you audio destination will be the expansion card slot that the Dante card is installed in. Think of this as the step that routes the audio to/from the SQ console to/from the Dante card.
Second, you have to set up the routing in Dante Controller. This is where you route the audio from the SQ Dante card to the Dante destination (probably a DVS instance running on the DAW computer). Think of this as the step that routes the audio to/from the Dante card to/from the computer.
Finally, you have to set up the proper routing within the DAW software itself. Think of this as the step that routes audio to/from the computer and to/from the DAW software itself.
If you skip or mess up any of these steps, your audio won’t flow like you expect.
Yes, the manual is not very helpful in this respect.

Yes, understanding the output patch screen is one of the important things that people either overlook or get wrong.
All the output patch is is a way of connecting one SQ output (from somewhere within the audio path of the mixer) to some form of external port.
It is analogous to the input patch of course.
Ask again if you get nowhere with the videos and we can explain it in simple term for you.
