Show vs Scene….why one over the other

I’m new to the QU 24 but learning fast,
My question is when would a SHOW be preferable to a SCENE? They appear to be very similar in function?

Thanks for any help!

Brian

A Show file saves all the scenes as well as some other “higher level” functions of the console.

You usually want to use scenes to make changes during an event, but then you generally want to save everything from a single event as a “Show” file. So one “Show” file per event while using as many scenes as needed during the event.

On the QU there is only the current active show file stored in the mixer along with it’s up to 100 scenes. To save multiple show files they need to be saved to a USB drive and then loaded back into the mixer as needed.

I don’t know if this applies to you but our venue is used for a variety of “types” of events (choir, band, assembly, presentation etc). We have a scene for each of them as do other users of the venue (User A - Band, User B - Band etc). For us, the “Shows” is a convenient package of all of it that gets backed up periodically for safety. YMMV

You may need to be a little careful about using scenes for multiple different configurations within a show.

Some (possibly ony a few) of the desk configuration parameters may only be saved in the show and not the scene.

You need to understand what you can (and cannot) save to / restore from a scene.

If you need to change a parameter that is stored in the show (rather than the scene) that will dictate the ultimate choice.

We use scenes at our Church (we have an SQ7 though) pretty much exclusively for everything (so far) but I can see occasions where a different show could be required in the future…
