A few days ago I tried the SIP function during VSC for the first time on the Avantis, but it really didn’t do anything. Did a few desk restarts but no luck. I’m still on FW 1.33 (and planning to upgrade seen 2.01 sounds to be stable).
Just to clarify for myself, the only thing it should do is solo a channel on the LR bus when the PAFL is pressed right? Hope someone can help me out with this one.
Was audio passing correctly through the system with VSC (ie VSC was routed and working correctly)? Was audio actually coming out of the speakers at this time?
Depending on how you have set up the system, it could be as simple as the fact that PAFL might be set to after fader listen. This means if your main L/R buss fader wasn’t turned up, you wouldn’t hear anything in the PAFL buss. If this is the case, simply turning the Main L/R fader would allow you to hear the PAFL channel in your headphones, etc.

Audio was definitely passing through with VSC and is working fine for the rest, and outputting normally to the speakers in my studio with all the master faders opened up. When pressing the PAFL button nothing happens. I’m currently on the road (without the mixer sadly) but I was wondering if anyone else encountered this issue, perhaps on the same fw.
I’m an idiot. When I read your post yesterday, I incorrectly read it as a PAFL problem, not a SIP problem! My mistake.
SIP (Solo In Place) must be set up and turned on for each audio source you might want to apply it to. This is because it can be “dangerous” to use (ie you certainly don’t want it to be activated during a show) and it is deactivated by default.
If the SIP works with normal audio, but not VSC audio, I guess that might be by design (or a design oversight). I honestly have rarely used SIP and I’m not sure I ever tried it while using VSC.

And exactly, SIP did not seem to be working, at least in VSC. I’d say SIP would most definitely have the most use in VSC mode, in either a studio or when sound checking. Now when I’m prepping a show at home and want to focus on one channel, I tend to solo the specific channel in my DAW but would be cool to do it on the surface with SIP. I feel stupid for not getting it to work, like I’m missing something?
I will continue this thread further when I’m back home with the Avantis - if anyone else has had any similar issues happening or fixes for this feel free to comment of course.
I checked on 1.33 and 2.01 and SIP does work with both VSC and with a live I/O patch (could not reproduce the issue). I would note that if you SIP assigned to a softkey, you need to press and hold that softkey for >1 second to enable SIP - this is a safety feature.
