Slink over fiber

Hi Guys,
currently looking at investing in a fibre backbone for our rig…
Running Avantis (sometimes SQ) via Slink to GX4816 (occasionally multiple DX168)
In addition we have Dante running down to the amps…

My question is who’s doing this reliably with out issues and what hardware are you using?
Im currently thinking of keeping the Slink separate from Dante and having separate lines, looking for working real world solutions…

Cheers

SLInk (and all of the other A&H proprietary protocols) are designed to be a direct connection. While A&H has given some guidelines on how you can use switches with VLANs with their proprietary protocols, it is still going to be a 1 to 1 connection. You certainly cannot run both SLink and Dante over the same network cable (edit for clarity - the same cable going to the switch), even if its fiber. If you can run a direct connection from the console to the stage box (ie no switches involved), you are going to have a much easier setup and a more stable setup over time.

Dante is obviously a different story because unlike the proprietary A&H protocols, it is designed to be implemented over a normal network setup. Even still, if you can isolate your Dante audio from the rest of your network traffic, you will end up with a more stable Dante network that is also easier to setup.

Hello.

Not 100% sure with the SLink, but i use tp link gigabit fiber to ethernet converters with gigaace dlive and it works flawlessly. There might be problem with slink as it aggregate few standards in one. But still it would be best to try. Tplink converters are dirt cheap.

are you running SM or MM on your fibres? I get SM is good for distance… more expensive however Im being led to believe that most audio is over MM… I assume because it doesn’t need anywhere near the bandwidth as video does these days…
