I was really excited when the CQ series came out, since I’ve been wanting something in that compact form factor since I only need 3-8 inputs. Unfortunately, its routing/matrix capabilities are limited/non-existent.
The new Qu-5D looks to check all the boxes technically, it’s just much larger than I need. Is there any possibility of a Qu-3D or 4D?
has a minimum of 8 local inputs (because it would be nice to have the option to expand with a stagebox like the DX168 or DT168)
supports full external inserts via Dante, but fast USB (1–5 ms) would also be acceptable
I’m very disappointed with the new QU series, especially in FIXED 16x16 Dante card. I work with two main scenarios:
Conferences that need a maximum of 6 wireless mics — but for that, the QU is just too large
Bands where I need 24 to 32 channels — but in that case, there’s no reason for me to choose the QU over the SQ (which I can rent), because I also need stereo returns for my external effects
Yeah, maybe I’m asking too much, but why are there no small “adult” mixers? The QU doesn’t fill the gap between the SQ and CQ for me.
One of my jobs is making solutions for churches and now im buying mixers from Behringer for them (XR18s and Wings). Im so sad that i cannot buy anything from A&H, because every single mixer lineup that is cheaper than dLive is something missing.
Unfortunately, the AHM series is NOT a true mixing console. It obviously can route different inputs to different outputs, but it is missing a lot of the basic core functionality that a normal mixing console would have.
The AHM is designed for some specific use cases, but using it as a “live sound console” is not one of them.
Right, because the XR18 has Dante… an AES port on it (for Music Tribe stage box support)… and an I/O expansion port on it… All the things you just said you needed in a console.
That being said, Allen & Heath has done a very good job at creating on overall “universe” of products. You need to research and choose the product that fits your needs. If that needs to be a DLive, then buy a DLive. But don’t you dare try to compare a DLive to an XR18 or even a Wing, because they are NOT in the same class of consoles. If you are missing features on A&H options below the DLive, you are missing those features with the XR18 and Wing too.
Sorry, but that’s not the point. You’re focusing on arguments instead of the actual message. The topic is about my frustration that the smallest adult mixing board is the Wing, which is too big for my needs, and that there’s no real competition for the DM3.
My comment is saying: Please, make a physically smaller QU-3D and I’ll buy one for every small church I work with — and especially for myself.
Building an “adult” console (your words) in a smaller than 19" form factor is a very niche product. 98% of the people using a console with that much power would prefer more than 8 faders. You can’t blame manufactures for not building a device that has such a small appeal. Yamaha obviously has the DM3, but most other manufactures don’t have anything in that form factor.
There are good reasons for this too. For example, an 8 channel QU wouldn’t be able to display all of the available inputs and outputs. It only has 4 layers which on a 8 fader layout would mean a total of 32 possible faders. Given the QU has more mixable inputs than that without even including the busses and outputs, I’m pretty sure that would be a non-starter for A&H right there because it would be completely unappealing for it’s target audience.
Sorry, but I feel like you haven’t read my comment or my points. It would be great to have a constructive discussion, but it just doesn’t seem possible. Please don’t insult anyone else.
Once again, I’ve asked for a small, probably 16-channel, console with a Dante card that matches its channel count, has adult processing, and comes in a compact form factor (probably 8 faders). Especially for small OB vans and conferences, it would be the first pick for many of us.
We run an Avantis in our theatre and already have two IO boxes for it.
We do a few small location events a year, and it’s often complete overkill to have to take the Avantis or our S21.
A 8-12 fader Qu would do the trick, or even a rack version that could use our IP8.
The point is that it’s considerably smaller than an SQ/Qu5 because otherwise we might as well take the Avantis/S21.
Well what you are asking for would be a completely new product from A&H and it wouldn’t have the “QU” name then. The new QU lineup all share the same processing power and you are asking for a console that offers less processing power than the new lineup.
It would have to offer less processing power too, for all the reasons I stated in my last post.
