Soft Key Assignment Libraries

Similar to Strip Assign Libraries, it would be really nice to be able to recall different Soft Key configurations.

On a typical week, I’m running 10 monitor mixes from FOH so I currently have Soft Keys 1-10 on my C3500 assigned to SEL, MIX, PAFL the corresponding auxes. That’s over half my available Soft Keys.

Having another Soft Key that’s setup with an Action that could toggle between two or more libraries would be a nice way of getting more out of the limited number of Soft Keys available on C series surfaces.

I was thinking about a similar request.

Until this is implemented, I use scenes for it.
I have 2 scenes with soft key settings and nothing else.

At the moment, I toggle between these two scenes with a softkey.
It is not ideal, but it works. You need to be careful with other scenes.

The library path would enable easy transfer to different shows, as an additional benefit. Scene transfers are always a bit cumbersome.

Perhaps it would be a good Idea to have a third Scene Filter setting to “override” the global filter for such things. So you wouldn’t need to define a scene filter for not overriding soft keys for each other scene.

Or as an even migthier feature definitions of scene groups with per-group filter settings so we can dedicate scenes to things like patching, routing, soft keys, fx settings and so on by assigning them to a geroup.

Then the “default scene group” could be restricted to not override preamp settings, patching and other things you don’t normally change between “working” scenes. And more special scene groups could be restricted to only change exactly this things.

I think that would make it too complicated.

There are cue lists available. A filter dedicated to the cue list would be possible.

The Library way would be much more elegant, I think.

That’s a very good suggestion. Would make the softkeys more flexible without using scened to switch the set up.

Cue lists won’t work in all cases as long as there is no was to assign “load scene x from cue list” to a soft key. At least i could not find such a function.

Keep in mind that - as far as i see - Scenes are mainly used in two ways:

  1. as a theater-like “scene sequence”. That is the use case for a cue list.
  2. as a way to “static” switch mixer functions. There is no scene order but several soft keys assigned to load specific scenes so you can switch around mixing functions fast by pressing the soft key.

The second variant is the one i would suppose to have use for filter soft key assignments selectively. With that it would even become possible to implement some kind of paging for soft keys. But cue lists don’t help there since there is no scene order. Each scene is just used as some kind of “Mixer Preset” which may change levels, routings, fx parameters and such things. Maybe even I/O Patching or the strip assignments. In fact, with a good scene filter logic it would even become possible to “reimplement” the layer feature (which can be seen as a set of scenes, each one dedicated to one layer button, with a loading filter on anything but the strip assignments), making the layer buttons to normal soft keys.

That is exactly what I do now.
But if you store scenes during sound check, you need to make sure to update the recall filters afterward. Otherwise, you get an unreliable mess.

A long press could be a secondary function. :person_shrugging:
