SoftKey labels or ...?

What do you all use to identify the SoftKey functionality? Physical labels beside each button? A printed cheat sheet? A superhuman memory?

It would seem that the flexibility of SoftKeys immediately disappears when button labels are applied to the console. A&H already knows that, since SoftKeys are globally safed in scene recall by default.

Even if the Avantis had little screens for each button, the thought of the button functions changing from scene to scene is disturbing.

Yes, labels next to the physical buttons is what I typically do. They don’t even have to be completely descriptive/accurate. Just enough to remind me what the function is.

However it’s really annoying when you use the Director software because there are no “labels” that you can add. I mean I guess you could stick “post it” notes on the screen, but that seems a little excessive.

I use labels. Laminated since I have a pretty static setup most of the year. Would I love little displays for each button? Sure would! Of course that’s not gonna happen without a major top panel hardware change. Something for another desk.
