SQ-5-DX168, light is flashing at the connection.

I have connected my DX168 to my SQ5, but the light is flashing. I have the most updated firmware V1.5.11. But it has been a while since I have my DX168. So, it has been turned off all these times. Just today, I wanted to record my keyboard that I on input 1 and 2 of my DX (in Reaper it will show as input 17 and 18). But Reaper is not seeing it. Infact, Reaper is not seeing anything I plug in the DX168. What can be the problem? Is it due to the flashing light where I connected the DX168 to my SQ5? Please help.

Hey @WBCStudio

Unfortunately your video didn’t attach as the file size is too big for our Forums…
A steady orange flashing light next to your DX/SLink port is normal. Hopefully this is what you’re seeing.

So from there on, there’s a few things to check out.
Is the DX168 showing up as connected? There will be an icon in the top left corner of the screen - looks just like the Ethercon port on the console/DX Expander.
Navigating to your I/O screen should show DX written in blue under the SLink tab.

If all that is in order, then make sure your SLink sockets are patched to your input channels as you usually would, and your IP Direct Outs are patched to USB channels correctly.
Further help with this can be found from Page 18 of the Firmware Reference Guide, which can be found here: https://www.allen-heath.com/content/uploads/2023/05/SQ_ReferenceGuide_V1_5_0.pdf

Hope this helps.

We have had this a few times with our SQ7. Luckily, we have a QU-32 as well and it seems that the firmware built into the DX168 gets corrupted sometimes. The only way we’ve been able to sort it out is plug it into the QU-32 and then once it loads the correct firmware for the QU-32 then we can plug it back into the SQ7 and it will find the correct firmware and it and show up again. This has been the way we have been able to fix that problem that you were having.

Since the video is missing it would help to indicate the state of the mode switch on the DX168 (cascade or redundant) and which port on the DX168 you had plugged the SQ5 in to (DXA or DXB).

Have you ruled out a faulty STP network cable?

You say the firmware on the SQ5 is the latest (V1.5.11) but you have not connected the DX168 for a while. Is it possible that the SQ5 is updating the firmware on the DX168? If this is the case, the DX168 may be unusable until the firmware update has completed.

If the console has a different firmware than the stagebox, the stagebox will need to update itself to the same firmware version. You will need to plug the stagebox directly into the console (ie it can’t update itself when cascaded off another stage box) and wait a while. I’m honestly not sure how long the update should take. I can’t imagine it will be a lengthy time, but it’s also not “instantaneous”. After a few minutes, hopefully the stagebox will be updated and communicating properly.
