SQ-5 large latency on Cubase via USB

I use an SQ-5 which is connected to an old HP workstation via USB audio driver (48kHz). There I use a CUBASE 6.5 to save the streams and then make overdubs. Headphones are connected to the SQ-5 AUX 8. Everything is ok so far, the ASIO driver works with 32 samples, safe mode and shows an input/output latency of approx. 2.5 ms. However, when I sit at the drum kit with the headphones and record 12 drum channels via SQ on CUBASE, I have a large audible latency. Of course, no plug-ins are involved on CUBASE. I suspect the problem is with the HP, but maybe someone else has some good input! Thank you very much.

Why are you doing the monitoring with Cubase?
You already have a desk.

Steffen is correct. Why are you trying get your live monitor from the recording device? Use your SQ-5 for any live monitoring needs and then any latency in the recording chain really doesn’t matter.

In general, the slower the computer you are using for recording, the more latent the process is going to be. But as long as your recording device is capable of recording the audio without any audible “glitches”, it really doesn’t matter how latent the process is. It could have 5 minutes of latency and it wouldn’t effect the end result.

Thanks for the feedback!
I’m not sure if I’m expressing myself clearly. I produce pilot tracks for our band. That means the process should be as follows.

  1. I record the drum tracks to a click from CUBASE. Storage on CUBASE. During the take I need the click and my drum on the headphones.
  2. then I play the keyboards to the already recorded drum tracks. I should then have the already recorded drum tracks, the click and the keyboards on the headphones.
  3. this works, but with a delay on the tracks that I am currently recording.

I hope that I only have a problem with the routing and that this can be solved easily.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you and greetings from Switzerland. Dani

Do the monitoring inside the SQ, you just need a stereo input from the DAW as playback, mix your sources inside the SQ!
