SQ5 LOCAL I/0 AUDIO ISSUES

Hi, The SQ5 console runs smoothly until one time mid service there comes a static noise on the speakers which turns to a sequential white noise. All local inputs show a disturbing noise signal that is beyond the peak level. When all local patches are muted then we are okay. At the same time, any patches to the stage box works perfectly normal.
The first time it happened, all gains on the preamps for all inputs was reset to 0dB and from Gain to Trim control.

Some days we run all three services smoothly and some days the noise will randomly start mid-service and cause disruption.

What could be the reason for this? and how can I solve this issue?

Sorry to hear about your problems. These are the worst kind of problems to troubleshoot (unfortunately).

My first question is what firmware are you running? 1.5.x or 1.6.x and (if 1.6.x) have you recently upgraded to it before your problems started?

If I understand your post correctly, it is just locally-connected XLR signals to the SQ desk that exhibit this problem?

If this is the case, and you have some unconnected local inputs, do the unconnected local inputs exhibit the same problem?

One possibility is the 1.6.x firmware. If you upgraded, then the problems started, I would suggest reverting back to the last 1.5.x version. HOWEVER, if you are using MixPad or SQ4You, this will screw those Apps up if you can’t ‘revert’ them…

A second possibility is an intermittent fault within your desk. You would need to contact your supplier in this case. Keep this option as the ‘last resort’ though.

A third possibility is mains noise or interference at the signal sources. Can you describe what inputs you have?

Dave

Hi, thank you for the response.
We recently got it and was already updated to v1.6 firmware. but it was okay and ran for 4months without any issues.

The noise is reflected on any channel that has its source selected to local. whether the inputs are connected or not.
The only local inputs I have a 2 pairs of cordless mic receivers and one stereo media channels

If you have problems with an unconnected local input - the problem has to be with the desk itself (unfortunately).

Dave

Thank you so much for the assist and insights. I will have it checked :folded_hands:

I would suggest that you obtain some video evidence of your problem ‘in action’ so to speak.

Turn the main volume right down, so that you can just hear the problem when it occurs, and put an unconnected input onto the desk meter display.

When the problem occurs, capture it to show the company.

A picture (and sound) video will be really useful for them in diagnosing the problem.

Dave

Do your local inputs have something in common? Like a stage snake or multi cable to connect all of your sources? Or do you only have “independent” cabling and sources?

Rob
