SQ5 noisy fans

I have a new SQ5 and will use it in a silent studio enviroment. But the fan are realy noisy with 58dba in a complete silent room. What is normal und what can I do to get the desk quieter ?

Hi!

The fan speed is dependent on the temperature of the desk. If the desk is increasing in temperature, the fans will increase in speed. So you should make sure the room temperature is not adding to the mixers temperature.

We don’t specify what level of noise the fans produce, mainly as this is dependent on the mixers temperature, but I wouldn’t expect them to be described as ‘noisy’.

What RPM are the fans running at? You can find this in Utility > General > Diagnostics.

Thanks!
Alex

i’m considering to get a SQ-6 … but reading this worries me. 58 dbA would be an absolute no-go

Are there any rough values from experience? Say it’s 21 °C in my room and the mixer is busy processing lets say 16 channels with some plugins

I tried earlier today and didn’t hear ANYTHING. Silence! I checked with my SQ5. It could be possible, that an SQ6 is more noisy but I wouldn’ expect it.
I guess, the SQ5 from “deleted user” ( ) had some kind of defect.

Of course, I can only speak for myself, as there will certainly be differences depending on the fan batch, but on my SQ-6, the fans are practically unnoticeable.

The OP did also not describe how or where he measured the noise, and when asked about the rpm to help diagnose his problem, he didn’t even respond.

Just for fun (or better, for you) now I mixed 24 channels with full levels, tube stage and vintage compressors, and even after quite some time, it had no effect on the core temperature or fan speed.

thank you thats a helpful information!

I have had equipment in my rig that had noisy fans; think Cisco SG300 switches. I have replaced those with “silent” fans, which while not silent, made the devices acceptable in quieter environments. I really don’t have that issue with my SQ6, even while I can hear the fan if I get close and listen carefully. Practically, real world, should be fine.
