SQ5 Not connecting to Router

Hi there,

I am lost for words because all of a suidden my SQ5 refused to connect to my router.

Gear:

Mixer: SQ5

Router #1: Gl Inet Slate AX (mounted in rack with AR2412 and other wireless mics, IEMS)

Router #2: D Link R15 Eagle Pro (personal home router)

Cables:

Black 15m Cat6A

Black 5m Cat6

Blue 10m cat5e

Blue 2m cat5e (came with AR2412)

At some point, all of the above worked flawlessly together in any combination (even with AR2412 though that’s now running it’s own shielded 30m cable).

The problem is that my black 15m cat6a just all of a sudden stopped working with my main slate AX router.

If I connect the black 15m cat6a cable to my home Dlink R15 Eagle Pro router, it works just fine.

Implying there is something wrong with my slate AX.

I then tried all the other cables with the mixer and the slate ax and it all works just fine.

I have tried to disable and enable the DHCP on the mixer (mixer tries to aquire addresses but it says (*) because the router did not provide any ip address).

If I disable and enable with any other cable, it works instantly.

If I connect the long 15m cat6a to my Dlink R15 eagle pro it also works instantly.

It seems like the only configuration that does not work is the long 15m cat6a with the slate ax router (and I have tested both individually with other cables and routers ensuring that neither is at fault).

Yes, I have connected to the network port and not the Slink port.

Yes, I have connected to the lan ports on the router.

Yes, I have tried different cables.

Yes, I have tried a different router.

Yes, I have tried reseting the Slate AX.

Yes, I even tried reseting the mixer.

Yes, I have lost some hair from pulling and scratching.

I know I can just use another cable, but the cable is perfectly installed in my bands studio and I would want to avoid the hassle of running a new cable through the wall.

Based on your troubleshooting, I think it is clear that it is the cable. I can’t explain why it works with other devices and not the Slate, but the short answer is use a different cable.

Hi,

I had the same problem in the past and my problem was even bigger: my hole SQ5 froze during showtime. After talking to the wonderfull Guys @allen&heath they explained me this had to do witch other equipment on the same network which where broadcasting a lot of data which made the SQ5 froze. After making a separate netwerk for my SQ5 only I never had the issue again. So make sure you are not running any software on the same network that will create a lot of broadcasting. This specificaly happens with DMX software ect. Hope that this can be of any help.

Just one more thought:
I could imagine the problem isn’t with the cable itself, but rather with one of the connectors or sockets involved, where perhaps a mechanical contact isn’t (or no longer is) in the correct position.
Please inspect both connectors and, even more importantly, both sockets again with a magnifying glass to see if you can spot any abnormalities or dirt (such as, for example, one of your pulled hair).
You could also try extending the network cable to narrow down the problem - or, unfortunately, confirm it.

With the necessary expertise, potentially faulty connectors could also be replaced on a permanently installed cable without having to run a new one.
