SQ5 + QU16: Can This Setup Work for Monitoring?

Hello,

I am currently using a QU16 mixing console with an AB168 digital stagebox. In the future, I would like to acquire an SQ5 to replace my QU16 for FOH. However, I would like to know if it is possible to use my QU16 for monitoring.

To do this, is it possible to connect my AB168 to my SQ5 and send the tracks to my QU16 via a QS S-Link expansion card, using Tie Lines for routing? Would this work, or do I need two SQ consoles to make it happen?

This should work.
However, you will of course need to use 2 Cat cables to the FOH.

Yes, this will work as you describe. The only thing to be aware of is that the SQ will need to set to clock from the SLink connection that is connected to the QU, otherwise you’ll get audio clocking issues. QU has to be clock master in this configuration.
