SQ5 will not connect to DX168 after fw upgrade to 1.6.2

Connection to DX168 has worked happily on 1.5.11 for many months. After upgrade to 1.6.2 it will no longer connect. I/O screen shows that it attempts to connect using DSnake mode and after a time (~10 seconds) gives up and indicates “Not Connected”. It has been running in DX mode until now.

This also occurred when we removed the SQ5 from the church and attempted to connect to a rented stage box for our carols service in mid-December. On that occasion the rented stage box was presumably on a different software version and it attempted and failed to update it. The sound guy updated the SQ5 to 1.6.2 then and it still did not connect. A bit of a side track but I believe that eliminates the stage box and the cable so the issue is at the SQ5 end and presumably with the firmware update. After the carols we could not reconnect to the DX168 in the church and downgraded back to 1.5.11 which has been working OK.

I am going to attempt this again using 1.6.1 and I will update the forum with the outcome. In the meantime if anyone has seen this and knows the answer please let me know.

Update: this issue is not present in 1.6.1. A&H software team please note.

Hi @wheeled -

I’m sorry to hear of this issue. I have created a support ticket for you, so please do check your emails and we will investigate accordingly.

Kind regards,

Are you connecting the stage box directly to the console? It needs a direct connection in order to automatically update the firmware. If the stage box is connected in a cascade situation where it is plugged into another stage box and not directly to the console, it won’t automatically update the firmware of the cascaded box.

If you have a situation where you do cascade stage boxes off one another, you need to disconnect them from each other and plug them directly into the console. Once the box has updated its firmware, you can disconnect it and plug in another box if needed. Once all the boxes are updated to the correct firmware, you can reconnect them in the desired cascaded setup.

Yes @sic0048, we only have the one stage box and it’s directly connected. I have noted the need to directly connect each one if we add a second stage box and then need to update them. I wonder if the architecture would support a software change to avoid the need to do that at some point in the future?

That would have been an easy fix if it was the problem. Unfortunately it sounds like a firmware/programming issue, so definitely open a support ticket as Max suggested.
