I’ve got a usb-b wire that I used to connect to my analogue sound system to record stereo sound directly from main LR to my iPhone before switching to the SQ6, I tried to do the same but however when I connected the wires and switched to US-B mode no sound was being recorded to the phone. Maybe I have to patch and I don’t know how, if someone could please help me.
Yes, you may have to use the output patch to USB screen to specify what audio signal(s) you want to send to the USB port.
Press the “I/O key”.
Select “Outputs” and (I would suggest) the Mix Ouputs. This includes the main L/R outputs (if these are what you want to record). You can record (basically) anything…
Select the USB tab.
Patch the signal source you wish to record to the appropriate USB channel.
If you are using firmware prior to V1.6 you may need to select USB-B rather than the SQ-Drive. You may also need to select the correct sample rate (48/96 kHz) for the recording device. See tab Setup>Audio>USB tab for firmware V1.5.
There are many more options available to you with the A&H SQ!
Check the SQ block diagram. Locate the USB outputs and you will see that it is connected to the output patch block.
Within the SQ firmware manual it lists what points are available as inputs to the output patch (if that makes sense).

Do I need to set any soft keys? As when I was recording through usb drive now I want to record via usb-b. How do I control the volume output to the usb-b?
We have a separate AUX channel that we use for recording.
The signal(s) that we feed to the speaker systems are not necessarily what we want to record.
As a result, a separate AUX channel permits us to configure a mix that we want to record that we are happy with.
The AUX fader then becomes the master record volume control.
That AUX channel is routed to the USB recorder channel via patching in the output matrix patch.
What you then have to decide is what you want to record (i.e. pre or post channel fade).
We have now switched to multitrack recording (using SQ-Drive) where we record each instrument/vocal on a separate track rather than using a combined mix.

Sorry, but I would like to record post-fade of the Mains LR so a stereo sound. Do I have to set any soft keys? Is there any way you could show me which aux channel it is?
No need to set any soft keys. Just patch L/R to USB in the output patch.
But there is no separate volume control now for the recording. The ‘main fader’ controls the 'volume’ to both the main speakers and the recording.
If you want a separate control for the recording level, you need to form an AUX mix for the recording. The AUX mix is one of the 12 group/aux channels that are available. Pick an AUX channel you are not currently using.
If you could document what input channels, groups, aux and matrix channels you are currently using, I may be able to advise you more.
Unlike your analogue desk, the SQ is much more flexible. But, along with flexibility, comes a learning curve…
EDIT: There is a little ‘trick’ you can use if you have a spare ‘matrix’. You can send L/R into a matrix and configure the matrix to do nothing. You can then route the matrix output to the USB. You can use the matrix output fader as a separate volume control for your recording.
I can help you configure this if it would help.

So this are the patches, as we use a s-link on stage and we have these, on aux 5 we have a stage monitor, for the usb should I patch the 4 LR the same or not.
Yes,
So you have patched main L/R to Slink channels 1 and 2 (not sure why main R is patched to Slink channels 3 and 4 as well - but that has nothing to do with the job in hand).
You have also patched main L/R to USB channels 1 and 2.
Let’s start simple first and get this configuration working for you and then make any changes necessary to achieve what you require later.
Which SQ firmware release are you running?
On pre V1.6.x firmware you had to choose between which USB output port to use. V1.6.x you don’t and the audio output is fed to both USB output ports.
Dave
I have the first one where u have to choose which usb port to use. I know how to do that, so that’s sorted. I’m going to give it a try this evening and let u now thanks.
Excellent.
If you display the meter screen, and monitor the USB output levels on the meter screen, that should tell you if a signal is present on USB channels 1 and 2.
If it doesn’t work after that, we are into the vagaries of the USB interface at the other end of the piece of wire and not the SQ end.
Dave
I tried using the methods that we discussed but however, my iPhone 15+ wasn’t able to receive any sound from the sq system. Do you have any idea how it could be solved for the iPhone if that’s the issue. There was signal being sent to the usb b as it was visible on the meters.
I assume you are using a USB-B to USB-C cable between the SQ and your iPhone?
What software App are you using on your iPhone?
I would assume that your App will require configuring so that it connects to the correct USB device name and channels that the SQ presents to the iPhone.
There may also be security settings from preventing the iPhone connecting to the SQ via USB?
If I have a bit more information regarding your iPhone App, I can look it up.
Dave
I don’t have any app currently installed on my IPhone 15 plus. Do u have any recommendations, because before with the analog system i didn’t need an app to record. When I recorded with it I also recorded video and the video audio was directly from the analog mixer.
Does anyone have any recommendations please?
