As per the title, my stereo aux channels are no longer routing to the L/R of my Avantis. I’m using them to route to VST’s with Dante via Logic Pro. The signal sends and returns though an insert and I can hear the FX returning on headphones with post fade PAFL no problem at all, but it’s no longer routed to the L/R.
You write “no longer,” but in my opinion, it was on the Avantis never possible to send an Aux to (Main) LR.
Perhaps you could use a group for that instead …
You shouldn’t swear to anything so lightly.
The probability that your mixer developed a mind of its own and changed its behavior as described overnight is practically zero.
One possible explanation could be that you (instead of your Main LR mix) might have been using a matrix for your output, in which you could also mix Main and Aux (see also image).
But if that were the case, it would still be working now, as on the day before.
Yeah but I did reset the desk first thing in the morning with my shows and template ( and not the engineers shows from the night before ) so there is that.
Anyway…. I did get this working today, but bringing the stereo aux back into the either a Stereo group or two separate ganged channels.
But.. it’d be really nice to just be able to route the stereo aux to the LR this way if using an insert as an effect ( as I was doing with Dante )
It’s nice that you found a workaround for your problem and that the additional latencies are not causing any issues.
However, I still think using a matrix to mix Main and Aux together, as was probably the case in your setup a few days ago with the other engineer, could certainly have been the more consistent approach - at least if your configuration would allowed it.
Your console doesn’t have a dedicated “L/R” - you’ve simply chosen to send your Main mix to your LR outputs.
And I know that you can’t rout a matrix to a Mix, and I didn’t write it to you like that, but:
So if I haven’t misunderstood you all along, you wanted to mix your Aux into the Main (LR) mix, and that’s exactly what would be possible with the help of a matrix (which would then practically become your new “L/R”).
A group/aux allows you to combine/sum channels together. A Matrix allows you to combine/sum busses together.
In practical terms, this means that you can use a Matrix to combine your Main L/R buss and you Aux buss together in a Matrix. With the Avantis and DLive, you can also send individual channels directly to the Matrix if you need to (ie they don’t have to be routed through another buss first). You would then take the output of this Matrix and route it to the main PA’s analog/digital output (local, a stage box, out over Dante, etc, etc, etc).
A common use of Matrixes is to process individual parts of the PA as a speaker processor. In this use case, you would create a Matrix for each PA element (Main PA, sub woofers, Fill speakers, etc, etc, etc). You would likely send only the Main LR buss to each Matrix in this case. Setting it up like this would allow you to still be able to control the overall volume of the PA using the Main LR buss fader/mute because the Main LR buss and only the Main LR buss is being sent to each “PA” Matrix.
In your use case however, you could not continue use the Main LR buss fader to control the overall volume of the PA. This is because adjusting the Main LR buss fader isn’t going to affect the aux volume that is also being sent to the Matrix. Therefore you will either need to use the Matrix fader or create a DCA group with several busses (perhaps the Main LR buss and the Aux buss, or all the “PA Matrixes” if you have more than one) to be able to control the PA volume overall.
