Stereo USB recording with very low levels.

Hello, I’ve done a fair amount of searching for this but just want to verify. I’m doing some USB stereo recording and the recording level is extremely low since I’m running the LR mains low. Is there any option to send the signal to USB pre LR main fader? Thank you, Scott

I assume that there is no such option.
You have probably already thought about the possibility of reducing the LR level after the console.
Otherwise, you have the option of using a different OUT pair for your recording.

All you need to do is normalise in post.

A&H set their consoles this way so your recordings don’t clip.

I wish I understood this better. What would be the downside to setting the gain and channel volume properly and then sending this signal pre-main LR fader to the memory stick?

I record with CQ12T into reaper.
I always record with a bit of comp for voice and a slight touch of makeup gain (no gate and no EQ).
I find the result to be very good and transparent and I don’t have to normalize too much after.
You’ll have to find your own sweet spot setting for your gear.

In your case, this would certainly not be a downside.
But if you use LR to feed a stream, for example, you can use the LR main fader to adjust the level of the stream.

The question still remains as to why you set this fader so low.
And, as already mentioned, you should also be able to use another OUT-pair for your recording, the mix of which follows your main mix.
The advantage of this would even be to make loud acoustic instruments, which are therefore reduced in a sound system, louder again for the recording.

“And, as already mentioned, you should also be able to use another OUT-pair for your recording, the mix of which follows your main mix.”

I would like to do this but when recording stereo to USB A memory stick, I don’t see any routing options other than it defaulting to LR mains.

Sorry, I don’t have a CQ so I can’t check it.
But I believe in the video from A&H that describes the procedure:

It works!s Thank you sir. When you mentioned previously I could change the stereo recoding source, it didn’t register since I thought the channel assignment page was only for SD card recording. Thank you!
