Studio Mode? Using the CQ20b like an Apollo

I’m using the CQ20b as my interface in the studio. I wanted a UAD x8p gen2 but the 16 channels of auto-gain/gain assist on the CQ for around 1K was way more affordable for me.

  1. Audio comes into the daw fairly quiet so I am always normalizing it to get it to a usable level. I wish there was a studio mode for the CQ so that I could select the desired input level on the Auto Gain/Gain Assist like you can do on the x8p gen2

  2. Computer audio defaults to output 1&2, but if I switch the CQ20b to USB input on those channels I lose two preamps. WILD!

  3. There is no easy way to do talkback through the system without losing an input channel and seting up a corny work around. Would be wonderful if there was a small remote unit (like RME offers with the ARC or UAD provides on their front panels with a momentary switch for talkback.

  4. Audio playback from youtube, I have to turn down the gain on the CQ sometimes to keep it from clipping (not allot, like -1db)

  5. It would be so cool if you could use the CQ plugins in the DAW so you could track through the plugins like UAD and when you go to playback it sounds like what you heard when you were tracking.

Those are the big ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Some might say, well why don’t you just buy a friggin UAD x8p gen2 if it has the functionality you are looking for and is purpose built for studio rather than live… well, the answer is I love being able to control my preamps from an app and have auto gain/gain assist available on 16 channels without having to spend like 4 or five grand!
