I have had a qu16/32 for a long time and never really got it setup how I want it to function. Don’t get me wrong, I got close enough, but in a studio setting it can be confusing. I have used mix 9-10 for my studio monitors for a long time and it was always a bit confusing because LR goes to my PC for recording through USB. So I would have my LR mix and my 9/10 mix and levels would not be right or whatever. Now I think I am realizing what I should be doing it having my monitors off a group mix. I’m considering using group 7-8 for my monitors and just sending in the LR mix for that. So I can set my levels for recording in the LR mix, and I can also send out the LR mix to my TC electronic units for the awesome metering they provide (I mostly like the stereo image visual, but the loudness over time and the EQ is also nice to have since the QU pretty much sucks at this kind of thing) Then since I’m following LR I can have a nice fader for my monitors for the actual level I hear stuff. I also have a big knob before my monitors for a good way to check the Mono mix with just a press of a button.
I think I get it now, but wanted to put my thoughts out there for anyone else frustrated with using these mixers in a studio setting. Maybe I’m the only one, and I definitely can take a long time to adjust and just go with whatever I get working instead of fully understanding my equipment. I still love this mixer after all these years and I still feel like I have stuff to learn about it.
