what is the requirement of a PC / tablet ..with Windows running a DM0
I totalt new to this and need som guiding about the topic
And what the “downside “of using a touchscreen surface and not physical knob/fader
Is there some feature that will be missing ..in conjunction to a dLive surface (e.g c1500)
The computer requirements are very minimal. The Mixrack handles all of the processing and it’s a relatively small amount of data being passed back and forth to the computer. I would say any computer capable of running Windows reliably will be capable of running the DLive director. This means you can use a very old or “low powered” machine without any issues.
The “downsides” of using a touchscreen are the same as any mixing on “glass” - whether that be a mobile device/tablet or a large computer screen. Namely you can’t mix by “feel”. You have to actually look at the screen to ensure your fingers are placed correctly which takes your focus off of what’s happening on stage/in the room. Also, while most screens support multi-touch, it is much harder to move several faders at the same time when you use touchscreen vs physical controls, so often times you end up having to move faders one at a time.
Our facility runs “Surface-less”. I am not aware of any functionality that is lacking on the DLive Director vs what is available on a Surface. However, there is no question that using softkeys with Director is a lot more inconvenient because you cannot use board tape to “label” the keys like you can with a physical Surface.
We use some hardware to help with these issues. First, we use IP8s to have physical faders. They are not cheap, but can sometimes be found on the used market at a decent price -especially if you have the ability to wait for a “deal” to materialize. Second, we use an Elgato Streamdeck XL to provide softkeys that can be programmed with dynamic labels. We use the Bitfocus Companion software to run it and I am excited about the “updated” DLive connector that is being developed right now as it should provide a lot more functionality than the currently released connector. Currently we mostly use scenes and recall filters on those scenes to make changes on the DLive via Streamdeck. It works fine, but having access to other functionality will be even nicer.
Thx a lot for a reelable and informative answer, this was just what I “needed”
all the best from E-sound
Just one thing to add, don’t use the slowest graphics card you can find, metering data and the UI will use graphics hardware acceleration.
thanx, iĺl keep that in mind
