Tap delay offset global tap

I have a feature request for Allen & Heath dLive:
In the Stereo Tap Delay, I would like the ability to apply an offset between the left and right taps while still using a global tap tempo assigned to a SoftKey.

You can already do this. You simply need to use the BPM (beats per minute) mode instead the MS (milisecond) mode. You’ll want to set the two delays times to different “note” values (ie 1/4 note, 1/2 note, etc). When you tap out a tempo, the MS time listed will change with the tapped tempo, but the different “note values” will ensure the delay remains different between the L and R channels.

That works, but I’d like to adjust the delay time rather than the note value."

Yeah, that would be cool. :+1:

It works like you want. You still use the global tap tempo to adjust the overall delay time setting - that value is found in between the “two sides” of the speed setting and it’s listed in MS. That value changes as you “tap” in the tempo using a softkey assigned to the global tempo.

The “note” time that you choose is always relative to the tempo that you"tap" using the global tap tempo. I think the tempo that you tap in is considered to be the “quarter note” time. This means if you have a 1/2 note set on the left and a 1/8th note set on the right of the stereo delay, the left channel will echo twice as slow as your “tapped” tempo and the right channel will go echo as fast as your “tapped” tempo.

EDIT - It’s possible that I am misunderstanding your request and you are asking to be able to “tap out” an offset as well as a global tempo. While not exactly what you are asking, you should be able to use scenes to change the “note values” of the stereo delay on a song by song basis (or even during the song). Just make sure you block the scene recall for all settings except that FX rack so that nothing else changes when you recall the appropriate scenes to change that FX setting.

Depending on the tempo the difference between 1/4 and 1/8 is much too high and it is tempo decendant. A ms offset would not be tempo dependant, but always be the same offset no matter what tempo is tapped. Just a little imperfection is what I would love to have.

That’s what the “MS” option does.

Just as the “BPM” value doesn’t change with the “tapped in” tempo, any set MS value also doesn’t change with a “tapped in” tempo. So when you use the MS time option, while the overall stereo FX will be based on the tapped tempo, the relationship between the two sides of the FX would not be relative to the tapped tempo like it is with the “BPM” option, but rather it would remain at whatever specific MS time was used in the FX settings.

Also, there are a ton of “note” options available that are much quicker than what I have used in my examples so far.

I will check that again. :+1:
