Timestamps on recordings

Hi Keith.
A suggestion tho dunno if its possible.
I cant say for other models CQ, but our CQ20B’s have to be connected to a control device, for me its both laptop windows and an iPad.
Both these devices have system clocks running, so when you initiate a start record, can the current time be sourced via the control device running the mix, stamped on that recording filename when start is initiated.

Hi Keith,

We really need this feature implemented asap. Although it may not be critical, the convenience of this cannot be understated. There is definitely some software workaround that can be done. Please do have your team look into this and make all of our lives easier. Thank you.

We put the requests I. Here and they are considered for new firmware releases. Mute groups and DCAs were added to V1.2.0 as a result of our requests.

+1 for clock synced timestamps on recordings (and would also be great for scenes, and on SQ as well).

Thank you. I thought I was missing how to set the time somewhere.

They’ve managed to implement this on the latest SQ firmware update (getting the date and time from a connected tablet) so fingers crossed they’ll be able to integrate the same approach to CQ in time.

If timestamp implementation isn’t possible, manually naming tracks would be great! (Even if they can only be 8 characters long.)

+1 for timestamp on recording

plus eleventy-leven on this

No RTC on otherwise so advanced mixer series? So bad :frowning:

Anyway, will be waiting for syncing time with remote app or connected computer when possible.

It doesn’t hurt to have special setting to exporting folder and file names with timestamp.

One thing you have to realize, the people who come to this forum to vote are only a vocal minority of users who may want and benefit from this. How about at least making it so the mixer will set files proper creation date if initialized from the CQ Mixpad app?

Yes this is a MUST HAVE feature.

Just voted for this. But lacking a hardware RTC makes it hard (apart maybe when using an app, which i rarely use). But i could also live with (re)naming folders as others stated. Even better.

Another new CQ user here coming across this baffling technical oversight.

Any device capable of recording multitrack audio should absolutely know the date and time. I already have hundred of files with useless metadata.

That makes sense and I appreciate the engineering constraints involved in making an affordable and highly specialized product. There are approaches the CQ engineering team may not have considered:

  • When initiating recording via CQ MixPad the app is always running on a device that knows the date and time. It could pass that information along with the record request.
  • When connected via Ethernet to an Internet-connected router even a naive use of a public NTP service could provide a rough time and date stamp which would be a huge improvement over the current state of affairs. The request could be made at the time recording starts, and by the time recording ends the timestamp should be available to apply to all of the created files.

Just a few thoughts, since this appears to be a very popular ask.

This horse has been beaten to death lol since 2023.

We still have no clear answer if;

  1. Time could be derived from network, app or Bluetooth?
  2. We could at least have manual folder naming/re-naming?
  3. It will never happen for technical limitation
  4. It will never happen for marketing reasons… Qu cannibalization etc. (they could eat DM3, TF1, TouchMix, DLZ creator, UI-24r, Behringer XR series, even Rodecasters lunch)

This device is so close to being the perfect “Swiss knife” mixer.
The “Leatherman multitool” mixer.

I think the QU upsell is mostly button & faders ergonomics, scribble screen, more I/O, Dante, layers, etc.
Basic form of timestamping and Sidechain/Ducking could be included in CQ.

Nonetheless, A&H has amazing product and team.
