Touch fader issues

Hi,

My Avantis V2.01 works fine at first, but after some time the touch fader system starts behaving incorrectly. Faders that I’m not touching become illuminated as if they were being touched, and the touch response becomes unreliable.

Restarting the console, or sometimes loading another show, fixes the issue temporarily.

The power supply, grounding, and power strip have been checked and are fine. The issue happens in different venues and also in my studio, where the console had previously worked without any problems.

Has anyone experienced this problem with the new firmware?

Thanks!

I get the same behavior, but it was common on my desk even with the previous firmware.

The fader touch system works by reacting to the tiny amount of current that our bodies produce. This current level is so small that the detection system is very sensitive. It is very common for the system to show phantom touches when there is another device nearby that is emitting energy (usually because it has a power supply that isn’t shielded properly/enough). This device could be a mobile phone, computer, external screen, wireless transmitter, or really any other electronic device that is powered on. The system is actually working properly, it’s just detecting energy from a source other than your finger.

This “phantom energy” doesn’t typically travel very far, so the offending device(s) are usually very close to the console/faders. Generally speaking, if you look hard enough you will find the offending device. (A phone in your pocket, a tablet sitting on/next to the console, and external screen setup right next to the console, etc). Moving it farther away from the faders is usually all it takes to stop the phantom touches from occurring.

If you cannot find the offending device, or if it is critical enough that you don’t want to move it, then simply turning off the “touch” functionality of the faders will make the problem go away. What little advantage you might perceive when it is functioning properly is obviously completely lost when it has phantom touches, so I wouldn’t hesitate to turn it off if I was having problems.

Hi Brian thank you for your input. I knew the things you listed on the post so I did unplug everything around it and the problem persists. It happens randomly after the console has been running normal for a while…

did you check the grounding? that is the most common trigger to the problem.

I personally don’t see the advantage of using the fader touch option. I turn it off on any other brand of mixers that offers this option. However, I’ve frequently experienced a problem on Avantis, where the screen changes, without touching it, maybe triggered by dust? Also tried cleaning it of any finger grease, but with no luck. Is there any way of changing the touch sensitivity on the screen?

I found this issue in my Qu-24 from last firmware updated.

I received a ticket support from A&H and they says thata I need to change the faders. Then I sent my desk to our local distributor in Colombia to repair the desk and change faders, BUT the problem persist. My desk has 6 weeks in the technical service at this time and I waiting to be repaired.
