I recently bought a 2nd hand qu24. Some of the faders get stuck. My method of finding them was to create stereo channels and move each fader to see what the one next to it does. some fail pretty fast and get stuck. Some take a while then eventually fail and get stuck. If I move them after that they will work again for a little while the fail again. All in the same way. They eventually get stuck and will not move unless physically moved. I tried searching and could not find a real solution for this problem. I do have replacements on order but I am wondering about other fixes. Could it be the belts? I have seen a belt adjustment video. Then I saw another video with a theory that some of the teeth of the belt might be gone so the fader can’t catch the belt, but when you move it physically it moves to a different part of the belt and starts working again. That makes me wonder are replacement belts available? Anyway this seems like such a common problem but I don’t see any great documentation on resolving it. Unfortunately the qu mixers have soldered faders so a bit more of a pain to replace, but I will go that route if needed. I would just like to try and see if I can get them working again without having to replace them. Thanks for any insights.
I’ve had this on a lot of older mixers with motorised faders. on my old Yamaha 01v96, which has Alps faders (I think A&H use similar), some belts were filled with dust, others had a tooth missing, and some I suspect the brushes in the motors and/or position potentiometers were a bit cartoned-up. you can try rotating the belt position, I guess, if cleaning doesn’t resolve it. After adjusting the belts and so on, you likely need to recalibrate the faders.
So first step I am trying, seems like it has mixed opinions is using deoxit fader spray. I had 6 faders that would get stuck. applying a little bit to the top of the fader entrance and bottom and moving it up and down (console off) and leaving it to dry for an hour or so. Turning back on 3 of them no longer stuck. I just went for it and gave the remaining 3 a decent spray along the fader entrace and spent some more time moving them up and down. left the console off a few hours. Just powered on and none of them stick now. I feel like some do have some extra resistance and no idea how long it will be before some get stuck again but so far so good. I think my plan will be see how it goes and I ordered replacements so next time one fails I will probably open the console do some cleaning, check the belts, etc. See how it goes and maybe replace some. I’ll document that part if I get to it.
