Two signals ganged with L/R to Stereo Matrix PAFL

When monitoring a stereo matrix via PAFL, the signal is summed to mono,
even though PAFL itself operates in stereo (e.g., with the main LR). With stereo channels it works fine but two ganged mono channels to L/R master will be summed mono.
Is this a known behavior, or can it be changed in a future firmware update?

Just to check…

On the ganged mono channels, have you panned these left and right? Or are they still panned as mono/center? Ganging won’t automatically pan the channels for you.

Sorry if that seems obvious, but mistakes happen, and things do get overlooked.

Of course they are panned left and right. But in case of PAFL on a matrix you can’t hear them panned left/richt (stereo). If you use for 2 single channels instead of ganging a stereo channel, then it works fine.

Intriguing. I’ll have to try and remember to investigate this when I’m next in.

Think I figured it out using Director.

You have two options:

1 - Select your channel, go to Routing, then pan individually for each where it shows the matrix you are using

or
2: Select your Stereo Matrix, go to Routing, then click on Follow Main Pan and select Follow for the Matrix you are using.

Works the same way for Stereo Auxilliaries too. Main pan won’t affect the Aux, they need to be panned seperately unless you use the Follow Main Pan setting in Routing for that Aux.

hmm, I am not on the board right now, but I can not remember a matrix-pafl not to be stereo. will have to check.

The PAFL of a stereo matrix is stereo,
The issue is that the ganged channels aren’t being panned in the routing of the matrix, since the pans don’t follow over.

You can also invert there, which is handy for IEMs.

And this is your friendly reminder that ganged channels aren’t stereo. Everything is just dual mono….including compression sadly.

Thank you for the detailed description. I’ve never had that issue before and never took a look into “Follow Main Pan”. You are completely right and now it works also with the PAFL on stereo matrixes. So … forget about my future update needs :see_no_evil_monkey:

If it makes you feel better, I have had the desk a year now and only realised this function about 2 weeks ago. Total time saver and game changer
