I want to record our band live onto a DAW on a Windows laptop, all channels. I’ve connected it fine, and got the DAW recording, but what I’m getting is post-Mute and post-Fader even though I set these both OFF in Direct Out Global Settings. I’ve also set the USB patching to be ‘Insert Sends’ not ‘Direct Outs’ as per the manual.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get it to not follow mute/fader?
It’s safe to assume you’re using an “old” QU, like a QU-16, and not a newer one like a QU-5.?
(Unfortunately, this needs to be specified these days, because s QU is no longer just a QU.)
If you’ve made Global Direct out settings, these will only apply to Direct Outs. )
So try switching back to the “Direct Outs” mode and, with the Follow options disabled, setting “Post Preamp” as the source for your recording (see image).
According to the block diagram, it should theoretically also work in the “Insert Sends” mode, but it would be the same source point (Post Preamp) anyway, and besides, it wouldn’t be the first mistake in a block diagram.
Thx for responding. You’re right it’s a Qu-Pac, same mix engine as the Qu-32.
I did try Patching Direct Out with Follows de-selected, but it made no difference, which is why I thought I must be doing something silly because setting Follows OFF (which is done in the Channel, Processing, Direct Out Global Settings) just didn’t make any difference to the USB streaming.
The manual has a very confusing (to me) one liner, see pic. It seems to contradict the earlier paragraphs.
If you’ve indeed set your USB to “Direct Outs” and both Follows to Off, I would expect it to work that way.
Since there aren’t many complaints about this, I assume it works for most people.
With that in mind, double-check that you’re not using an outdated firmware.
(There have even been several maintenance updates without release notes.)
Your circled note likely refers to the Mix (and Matrix) outputs, which are probably always post processing and post fader.
