USB recording Drive slow to format very clunky

I have found the multi channel recording via hard drive USB is very clunky - it can be slow to format and often have to reboot etc - one question I had was the FIRMWARE has not been updated do you think that would help ?

If you’re using an external hard drive or SSD, make sure you have a 20gb or more USB cable. The throughput on many cables is pretty low.

An update for the firmware wouldn’t hurt - but it is more likely your USB Drive - is it a stick or a harddrive? I use a WD 4TB USB Harddrive - and it’s fast to format and doesn’t hang up.

Hi ITs a hard drive one of the tested brands LaCie rugged mini the cable keeps falling out it not sure why its think cable 20 g I think

Thank you - I have been searching for as 2og cable but having difficulty on 5BPS high speed coming up any advice on where to purchase ? Thank you very much

It is a Hard Drive one off the Tested list La Cie Mni rugged - plus the cable keeps falling out not sure why but I might change the hard drive I have the list of tested one

Look for 40gb or 80gb usbC on ebay.

Before the values increase even further:
I’d just like to remind that this is a standard USB 2.0 interface.
Theoretically, the maximum possible data transfer rate is less than 0.5 Gbit/s, and the maximum actually needed is less than 0.04 Gbit/s!

There’s really no need for further analysis.
Either the connector on the cable is broken, or the port itself.
So don’t be surprised if it’s working poorly or not at all.
Try a different cable - if you buy it from a reputable store, any cable should work.

I don’t know what a ‘2og cable’ is - but a cable that works with LaCie is very common on Amazon - that it’s falling out is what @Dave54 said - broken port - broken cable or both.

A 20gb harddrive is very small - there are USB sticks that are 128 gb for very little money:

Samsung 128gb Flash Drive

They are referring to what Dave suggested below, in getting a cable capable of 20Gbps speeds I believe.
