Using 2 Dante Controller software on the same setup, possible?

Hi experts, assuming there is a setup for FOH and monitoring setup and stage boxes all setup with Dante with a laptop Dante controller and ready to go, is it possible to connect a second laptop with Dante virtual sound card installed to record from all available tracks and route them with Dante controller on that same laptop or two controllers are not allowed on the same network? It would be amazing just to connect the laptop and rout all Dante tracks into a DAW and record!

You can have multiple controllers running, and that has nothing to do with your ability to record. You can record your Dante into a DAW and do not need to have controller running. It is only need to manage the system and patching, once set it isn’t typically needed.

Hi Vicken,

you do not need two instances of Dante Controller (DC), you can run Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) on the same laptop as DC. You are all set to record with the set up you currently have, no need for additional hardware.

As others have said, you can have multiple instances of Dante Controller running on the same network.

The key point to understand here is that all configuration (such as device name and subscriptions etc) is stored in the Dante devices themselves, not on the computer running Dante Controller.

Dante Controller is simply a user interface that discovers which devices are available on the network, then queries them to discover their identity and configuration.

I highly recommend that you go through Levels 1 and 2 of the Dante Certification training.

You can run as many instances of Dante Virtual Soundcard and Dante Controller on the same network as needed (assuming your DVS licenses are valid). Each DVS instance will be a separate device on the Dante network and therefore listed separately in Dante Controller. This will allow you to route any audio into and out of each DVS instance, even if the same audio is being routed to several different DVS instances.

Just keep in mind that you can only have a single instance of Dante Virtual Soundcard running on each computer. (You also cannot use both Dante Via and Dante DVS on the same computer at the same time). So while you can have multiple computers each running a single instance of DVS on the network, you cannot have a single computer running multiple instances of DVS.
