Using a T-112 to control Logic Pro X via MIDI

Has anyone connected a T-112 via MIDI to Logic Pro X?
Do you still need the mix rack connected to use the T-112 to control Logic Pro or any other DAW when using MIDI control?
And can you use the scene functions?
