we just ordered a Qu-5D as a small desk to use with the stageboxes we already have with our Avantis.
The idea is mainly that we don’t have to bring the Avantis for smaller events.
This got me thinking if it’s also possible to use the Qu-5D as a monitor console together with the Avantis on FOH.
Is it possible to do this digitally?
Could I connect the stage boxes to one of the desks and add a giga ace to the Avantis to connect to the new Qu? Would that work?
Maybe a DX card?
Is it possible to connect the stage boxes to the Qu in stead and still pass on all of the channels to the Avantis? Only tapping and gaining the inputs required for mons on the Qu…
Just thinking aloud here. There’s no real urgency to gain this functionality but it’d be nice to know what the options are should the occasion arise.
You can connect the new QU5/6/7 to other A&H consoles digitally. However, since the QU-5 doesn’t have an expansion card slot, if you need to use any stage boxes in your setup they will all have to be connected to the Avantis. This is because you will need to use the built in SLink port on the QU-5 to make the digital connection with the Avantis. Of course this will likely mean installing a GigaAce card in the Avantis to connect to the QU-5’s SLink port.
That being said, if you don’t need to use any stage boxes, then you could use the built in S-Link port in the Avantis for this function as well and forgo the GigaAce expansion card. This would limit you to the 28 available analog inputs and the 24 available analog outputs however (12in/12out on the Avantis and 16in/12out on the QU-5).
If you have a QU-5D, you could also potentially use Dante to connect the two consoles, but the QU consoles with Dante only support up to 16x16 Dante channels, so it is pretty limiting.
